I am 40, I have three kids, a full time job as a computer programmer, and I need something creative in my life just for me. I am recently back from maternity leave where I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted out ot life, and doing something artistic was in my top five.
During my time off I looked at many 'learn to draw' websites and I came across this quote by the American illustrator Wallace Tripp
"The experienced illustrator subscribes to the principle of the application of the seat of the pants to the seat of the chair. Should inspiration whisk down your chimney, be at your table. The first ten thousand drawings are the hardest. Put another way, you have ten thousand bad drawings within and should expel them as quickly as possible."
I bought a skectch book, and I enrolled in an online drawing class at drawspace.com, and I started!
The drawings that are in my sketchbook are crap, but I love them DEARLY.
Here, I will open up my book and post them all. They are bad now, but they will grow and I will grow. My hope is to learn to love the imperfections in my drawing, as I love my own imperfections. I think I can learn a lot of about myself by doing this and hopefully find some other people learning to draw that I can interact with online and in person.

ReplyDeleteget 5000 sheets of cheap paper, draw 50 short(1-6min) sketches per day , use both sides of paper. after 7 month , you will have another art life. you can draw anywwere, on kitchen, bath, anytime. its very simple, and very cheap(27$ for paper in costco). enjoy!

ha. If seems so simple. In fact it is. But I don't do it. It's really about desire and drive as is everything in this world.
